Benjamin Decker is a Senior Audio UX Designer at Google in Mountain View, CA where, since 2015, he has been defining and designing the Google branded sounds of smart home devices including Nest Protect (smoke and carbon monoxide detector), Nest Secure (security system), Nest Learning Thermostat (smart thermostat), and Nest Doorbell. 

 

Prior to Nest, he was Senior Audio Lead (composer, songwriter, arranger, sound designer, and voice-over director) for LeapFrog in Emeryville, CA for 11 years. Benjamin has designed award winning educational and interactive audio on a wide variety of platforms including toys, interactive books, hand-held gaming, and mobile devices.

 

Benjamin has composed original songs and directed voice sessions for such notable clients as Disney's Winnie the Pooh (Jim Cummings), Sophia the First, Jake & the Neverland Pirates, Nickelodeon's Ni-Hao Kai-Lan (Jade-Lianna Peters), Dora the Explorer (Caitlyn Sanchez), and Dreamwork's Kung Fu Panda (Jack Black), among many others. 

 

Prior to LeapFrog, Benjamin worked as a Sound Designer at Microsoft Game Studios (Redmond, WA) working on AAA titles such as Rise of Nations, MechAssault, and NFL Fever 2004, he was a Content Producer at MSN Music (Redmond, WA), and was a Music Analyst at Mongo Music (Redwood City, CA). He has also composed, recorded, and toured extensively as a member of many rock, pop, country, jazz and funk bands for over 25 years.

 

Benjamin studied Music Performance (Double Bass) and Recording Engineering at San Francisco State University. He lives in San Leandro, CA with his wife and two daughters.
